ICRA collaborates with rain-fed small and marginal farmers in the Kotturu region of Vijayanagara district,Nanjungud in Mysuru district, and Chamrajnagara in Chamrajnagara district. Initially, the circumstances faced by these farmers were quite challenging, as the productive capacity of their lands had reached a critical low, a common issue among small rain-fed farmers. The land exhibited severe water stress, inadequate soil conservation measures, a shortage of seeds, and minimal systematic nutrient management. Additionally, there was an emphasis on monoculture farming with negligible tree cover, among other concerns. In response to this scenario, ICRA and the farmers commenced efforts to address these challenges systematically. The following images illustrate our early endeavors, showcasing how resources were gathered and transformed into adequate organic nutrients, supplemented by liquid manure and similar interventions. This initiative has successfully halted the decline in productivity and initiated a process of agricultural revival; however,a considerable amount of work remains to be done.
